About the academy

A classical foundation, taught with patience

Classic Players Music Academy began in 2008 under founder Anil Cheriyan as a place to learn music properly, vocal, instrumental and theory, rooted in both Carnatic and Western classical traditions. That same approach now guides students here in Dunedin.

Lessons are one-to-one and unhurried. Beginners build good habits from day one; more advanced players push toward graded exams, recitals and repertoire they're proud to perform. Every student is met where they are.

  • One-to-one lessons tailored to each student's pace and goals
  • Classically grounded, Carnatic and Western training
  • Clear pathway to Trinity & ABRSM grades and recitals

Teaching since 2008

Anil Cheriyan started Classic Players in 2008 and has taught through Trinity College London grades and diplomas ever since, with examiners visiting each year.

When lessons moved online in 2020, the academy was written up as a model for how to do it without losing the one-to-one attention. That teaching now runs here in Dunedin.
